Fulham Palace Sponsor a Brick Campaign reaches £8,000!

The sun shone down at this year’s Apple Day, which was a great relief to all staff and visitors. A special thanks to Volunteer Jane Bowden-Dan who manned the Sponsor a Brick stall at the event, raising £380 and started building her very own wall with the bricks sponsored. Edmund the Palace cat was initially keen to get involved but has since decided that sponsoring bricks isn’t his calling, having found out that 400 years ago, cats were placed in the walls of houses to ward off evil spirits!

The brick-specialists are currently placing the special signed Tudor bricks in the archway which welcomes visitors into the Tudor Courtyard. The brick laying requires a lot of technical skill as they need carving to the correct measurements, many requiring a curved edge. The bricklayers have to place many of the bricks above their heads, juggling with gravity and balancing on scaffolding.

The brick repairs inside the Tudor Courtyard and the transformation of the brickwork is evident with mismatched modern bricks and badly damaged Tudor bricks replaced with newly fired bricks made to match the colour and shape of the originals. The brick specialists will be working over the winter and will finish their work with the clock tower in April 2019.

Thank you to all who have sponsored bricks; with your support we have raised £8,000. There is still time to sponsor bricks and we hope to reach £10,000 before the end of the year. With your help, we can reach this target!

If you want to get ahead of the game on your Christmas shopping and are looking for a unique gift for a loved one, a brick is the perfect gift.

There are two types of bricks available for sponsorship: the Traditional Tudor Brick (which goes into the wall) and a Special Limited Edition Tudor Brick (which is placed in the archway).
