Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC): Barrage balloons

Our Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC) is for budding archaeologists aged 8 to 16.

Each month YAC members investigate different themes, with activities that can range from learning to catalogue artefacts to taking part in a real archaeology dig!

During World War 2 Fulham Palace was home to a barrage balloon operated by the WAAF. The Queen Mother famously paid a visit to the Palace at the time and chatted to the operatives. In this session we will be attempting to recreate a barrage balloon emplacement, learn how they functioned and how effective they actually were.
