Join us for a tour of one of London’s most interesting Victorian parks.   Opened in 1893,  it was formed out of the Bishop of London’s estate to provide space for recreation at a time when Fulham was developing rapidly and there was nowhere for local children to play.

The garden has a long and fascinating history dating back to the Tudor period when Bishop Grindal introduced the tamarisk to England through to Bishop Compton’s famous collection of plants in the early 1700s.

In October 2014 Fulham Palace undertook an archaeological dig in the historic Walled Garden to obtain data to assist in its restoration. Alexis Haslam from Pre Construct Archaeology presents the findings from the project, which involved a team of archaeology volunteers from the local community.
