Faces of Fulham Palace: Jada

Meet front of house assistant, Jada!

As a BA Illustration student from east London, I have grown a lot since working at Fulham Palace.

Working front of house at Fulham Palace was only supposed to be a summer job. However, the charm of the building, the magnificent walled garden and the friendly staff was what made me stay longer. During six months of working at Fulham Palace, I gained so much insight into working in a historic building.

No day is ever the same. Some days at the Palace can be lively – the grounds are brought to life with the hustle and bustle of hundreds of people discovering the story of Fulham Palace. Other days the Palace are peaceful with visitors drifting from one side of the grounds to another.

What I enjoy most about working in front of house is interacting with the public. Watching people’s faces light up when you tell them about the different parts of the building is always a treat. The genuine curiosity from the public makes me eager to share all my knowledge with them. Every day I work at the Palace I learn something new from staff and our incredible volunteers. Hearing stories from the volunteers who have worked here for years makes me fall even more in love with the Palace.

When I am not greeting visitors at the front desk or serving in the Palace’s gift shop. I sit in the temporary exhibition room scribbling away in my sketch pad (when nobody is around, of course).

Being surrounded by the compelling history and art of the palace inspires my own university studies. When I sit in the temporary exhibition room, I create observational drawings. They mostly consist of people I see in museum rooms or in the shop.
