African superheroes day

From magical Nigerian women warriors to Ogun and Oshun, discover African superheroes you may not have heard of.

Celebrate African superheroes on screen and in history at this inspiring and interactive afternoon event. Perfect for ages 6 to 60, this mini animation festival features African-themed cartoons, short films and powerful stories from real Black history.

While characters like Black Panther and Miles Morales have brought Black superheroes into the spotlight, a growing movement of artists is creating even more positive and authentic representations. This session introduces you to magical Nigerian women warriors, the West African folk hero Anansi, teenage Black superheroes, the deities Ogun and Oshun and more. Explore how Marvel has borrowed from real African traditions, and why so many positive Black images have been historically suppressed.

This event is part of Fulham Palace’s year-round Black History 365 series, which re-examines established narratives and brings to light the experiences of those who have been historically marginalised.

Led by Black History Walks, this engaging two-hour presentation uses short video clips and audience interaction to bring these stories to life and spark conversation.
