Palace explorers: kings and queens

Join our creative, hands-on sessions for 2 to 4-year-olds and their adults. Each week introduces an exciting new theme to explore.

This term
Join us for a term of Palace explorers with the theme of ‘kings and queens!

Week 1 – 1/2 November: Henry lV 1393-1394

This term we learn which monarchs visited the Palace.  We explore the Palace to find portraits of Kings and Queens and go hunting for Fulham Palace swords.

Week 2 – 8/9 November: Henry Vl 1439-1440

Let’s be royal! The Explorers make jewellery, dress as a King or Queen and imagine how majestic visitors might feel on entering the Palace.

Week 3- 15/16 November: Princess Elizabeth 1951

Princess Elizabeth loved camping and the outdoors too. Investigate the riches of the autumn garden and hide behind a leaf mask.

Week 4 -22/23 November: Queen Charlotte 1817

Hair can be fashioned in so many ways, learn about Georgian styles and create an amazing wig.

Week 5 – 29/30 November: Charles 1st 1627

Hats off! Charles 1st loved a fancy hat. Who wears a hat and why?  Make a gem-studded royal crown.

Week 6 -6/7 December: Christmas

Find out how the Palace celebrated Christmas and construct a beautiful evergreen table decoration.

This term is made up of six sessions, on Mondays or Tuesdays.


Accompanying adult and babies are free. Please note, children must be accompanied by one adult. All Palace explorers sessions are now held outdoors to adhere to the current Covid-19 guidelines and keep everyone as safe as possible. Indoor sessions will only be held in the event of very poor weather following strict procedures. The group size is now smaller, with only eight slots available for each session; in order to keep our group small, only one adult can attend per child. To safely hold Palace explorer sessions we are carefully following guidelines in line with government Covid procedures. This will include hand hygiene, social distancing and limited sharing of resources.
