In the garden
Summer
In summer our garden is thriving with growth, colour and horticultural activity.
The garden borders have filled out and are briming with blooms. The pond is full of life with aquatic plants and dragon flies. We have sown perennial wildflowers and have left parts of our grass areas unmown to grow long to attract insects and wildlife. The walled garden is a must to go and see with beautiful flowering annuals and organic vegetables growing harmoniously. Produce and cut flowers are ready for harvesting to sell on our barrow stall which can be found in the walled garden.
Look out for:
- vibrant coloured blooms in the pollinator friendly borders in the walled garden
- the pond, brimming with insects and plants supporting a huge range of invertebrates and birds. Keep an eye out for any newts!
- walled garden vegetable beds are overflowing with produce and cut flowers
- the Bishop Compton National plant collection beds are continuing to fill out and establish – over 80 different species show casing the plants that were growing here between 1675 and 1713.

Natural play area
Our new natural play area is now open! This play area uses logs and wooden objects saved from previous tree work on site as a basis for natural play, encouraging families to connect with nature in a fun and enjoyable way. Children are encouraged to interact creatively with natural materials set in a woodland area of our botanic garden.
